The problem

Friends game across Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, Discord and more - and none of those platforms can see each other. Knowing who's actually online and up for a game means checking five apps. And for younger players, most gaming social apps solve this with open chat, which is exactly what parents don't want.

The build

ReadyPlayerOn connects eight platforms - Steam, Discord, Xbox, PlayStation, Twitch, YouTube, Kick, Nintendo - into one friends list with real online status. Instead of chat, there are Zings: a single "wanna play?" tap. No DMs, no strangers, age-appropriate modes for teens, COPPA and UK GDPR compliant by design. Safety isn't a settings page; it's the architecture.

The result

Live on the iOS App Store, with streaming features, a points system and a themes marketplace shipped since launch. Android is in internal testing.

The human bit

Most social apps treat safety as a constraint to work around. ReadyPlayerOn treats it as the product: it's the gaming app a parent can say yes to.

Under the hood

React Native with Expo; Node.js and Express API on MySQL; Socket.io for real-time presence; OAuth integrations across six-plus platforms; RAWG games data. Live at readyplayeron.com and on the iOS App Store. Status: live - Android in internal testing.
